Vice-President, Asia Airline Market Embraer

Alex Glock is Vice-President for the Airline Market in Asia Pacific, based at the Company’s regional headquarters in Singapore. In this role, he is responsible for all of the Company’s commercial operations relating to marketing, sales and customer support for this business segment in the region.

Appointed in January 2009, Alex was concurrently tasked with leading the Company’s regional headquarters, Embraer Asia Pacific, as its Managing Director and to preside over its corporate activities.

Alex first joined Embraer in 1997, at the Company’s North American unit in Fort Lauderdale, in the United States of America (U.S.A.), before relocating to the Company’s global headquarters in Brazil, in 2002.

With 20 years’ experience in managerial and entrepreneurial roles – he was General Manager of Prime Medical Care, co-founded Global ComNet Telecommunications, in Florida, U.S.A. and a trader at Plexchem International in New York prior to joining Embraer – Alex has a Business Administration degree in International Studies from Syracuse University, New York, and is a Board member of The Logistics Institute - Asia Pacific, of the National University of Singapore.

Andrew Drysdale

Mr. Drysdale is currently Executive Director of Mentor Aviation Services Pty. Ltd., a Sydney based aviation and tourism consulting firm. He is also a Senior Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales, President of the Royal Aeronautical Society in Australia and a Fellow of the Society. He regularly chairs and speaks at aviation conferences and periodically writes for an aviation business magazine.

Mr. Drysdale completed a six year contract as Regional Vice President Asia/Pacific for the International Air Transport Association, (IATA) based in Singapore. He was Chairman of IATA India Private Ltd. 

For 10 years, Mr. Drysdale was CEO of the National Carrier of Fiji and subsequently Australian Regional Hazelton Airlines. He was also CEO of two Tourism cruise ship companies. Mr Drysdale served for many years on the Board of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, as PATA Chairman in 1996/97 and is a life member of the Association.

He has served on the Board of IATA, several terms as Chairman of the Association of South Pacific Airlines and as a Director of the Regional Airlines Association of Australia.

Anup Mysoor

Anup Mysoor is a Managing Director in Citi's Industrials Investment Banking division. He works across the Industrials portfolio and also has specific responsibility for the Aviation sector in Asia Pacific.

Prior to his current appointment, he was the Asia Head of the Industrials, Real Estate, Consumer and Healthcare group in Citi's corporate bank. Anup moved to Hong Kong in 2002 from London where he responsible for aviation industry coverage for key clients based in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to joining aviation in 2000, he was co-head of the German team at Citi's Asset Finance Group in London. He started his career in 1990 as an M&A analyst.

Anup is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK (ASIP), holds a BCom from the University of Mysore (India), an MSc in Investment Analysis from the University of Stirling (Scotland) and an MBA from Manchester Business School (England), where he also used to be a Visiting Fellow.

In July 2007, Azran was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X, the world’s first truly low-cost long-haul airline. He led the start-up team that developed the business plan, raised capital, secured relevant licenses and approvals, acquired aircraft and launched AirAsia X’s first inaugural flight to the Gold Coast, Australia in November 2007.

Prior to his appointment, Azran was formerly the Senior Director of Business Development for Astro All Asia Networks plc, a leading Asian digital satellite television and radio broadcaster, where he led the start-up and operational launch of Astro’s international investments and joint ventures across Southeast Asia, India and Greater China – having oversight management responsibility for a portfolio of over US$300 million invested in these businesses.

Azran was formerly an Associate Partner of McKinsey & Company, an international management consultancy, where he co-led its Southeast Asia Corporate Finance & Strategy practice.

He holds a Masters degree in Management Science and a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, both from Stanford University.

David Power

Chief Executive Officer ORIX Aviation

David Power is Chief Executive Officer of ORIX Aviation. He joined ORIX in 1992 and has held various roles within the company including General Counsel and Head of Asset Management. In 1997 David was appointed to the Board of Directors of the company and since 1999 has headed its asset management functions. In April 2005 David was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer and a year later appointed Chief Executive Officer.

In 2004 ORIX Aviation commenced a process of expanding its asset and product base from its centralized its Dublin operation and now owns and/ or manages a fleet of 130 modern commercial jet aircraft and a portfolio of spare engines valued in excess of US$3.4 billion.

David holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree from University College Dublin. In 1998 he was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Ireland, in 1991 he was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors, England and Wales, is a member of the American Bar Association and the International Bar Association.

David joined RBS Aviation Capital at its inception, originally responsible for Airline Marketing in the Europe, Middle East & Africa region. David was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2004 and joined the Board of Directors in 2007, his responsibilities cover the operation, risk & asset management of RBS’ $13bn global aviation portfolio.

RBS is one of the top five lessors in the world with a portfolio of over 340 aircraft on lease and on order with a customer base of over 100 airlines worldwide. RBS has a strong trading philosophy and has traded over 190 aircraft and spare engines plus $4bn of aircraft secured debt since 2005, as such RBS’ has one of the youngest fleets in the market.

David was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT) for a four year term from March 2011.

Over the past 20 years, David has also held various roles as Regional Head & Global Head of Aviation Finance for international banks and was based in Hong Kong for five years establishing and leading an aircraft and project finance business.

David holds an Honors Degree in International Business & Economics from Trinity College Dublin and has completed various Executive Management Programs at Harvard and London Business Schools.

Dick Forsberg

Dick Forsberg has 40 years’ aviation industry career experience working in a variety of roles with airlines, operating lessors, arrangers and capital providers in the areas of business strategy, industry analysis, forecasting, asset valuation, portfolio risk management and airline credit assessment.

Dick joined Avolon in April 2010 as a founding executive, responsible for managing the strategic direction of the business, its risk management framework and its industry analysis, forecasting and asset valuation activities.

Prior to Avolon, Dick was Head of Strategy at RBS Aviation Capital and had also been with that company since its foundation, performing a similar role. He was previously employed with IAMG, GECAS and GPA following a 20-year career in the UK airline industry.

During his recent career history, Dick has been responsible for forecasting and defining business trading cycles, developing aircraft residual valuation models, setting portfolio risk management criteria and determining capital investment targets. He has worked closely with leading industry stakeholders, including airframe and engine manufacturers, aircraft appraisers, analysts, banks and academics and is a regular presenter at industry conferences and events.

Dirk Arhelger is Manager Corporate Finance since 2006. In this function, he is responsible for the capital market activities of Lufthansa. Additionally he looks after the financing activities of the Lufthansa Technik group, LSG Sky Chef group and British Midland. Prior to Corporate Finance, Dirk worked for 2 years in the consolidated financial statements department of Lufthansa.

Dirk holds a master degree in economics from the University of Cologne.

 Eddy brings over 27 years’ experience in the aviation sector to his role as Director of Ascend’s global consultancy, industry analysis, asset valuation, and technical services. He is a trusted advisor to Ascend clients and his most recent engagements have involved supporting the leading airframe and engine manufacturers, operating lessors, and financial institutions.

Eddy is a regular conference speaker and a visiting lecturer at the Air Business Academy in Toulouse, specialising in aircraft values, market dynamics, and asset management.

Hiromichi Matsudaira

Hiromichi Matsudaira

Head of Special Finance Bank of Tokyo - Mitsubishi UFJ

Mr. Matsudaira joined former Mitsubishi bank in 1989 and is currently the Head of Special Finance Department, acting as the Product Head for transportation, equipment and a wide range of asset financing. He has been in the asset finance arena for over twenty years.

In early 1990s, he engaged in arrangement of Japanese Leveraged Leases at its early stage of business. When he was based in New York from 1995 to 2002, he offered and successfully placed US leveraged leases and off-balance sheet products to multiple US customers. His early success also includes arrangement of private equity investment and leveraged buyout finance.

From 2007 to 2009, he was transferred to Singapore to offer solutions for clients in all over Asia. He supervised and arranged varieties of finance products, including project finance, real estate finance, loan syndication and securitization.

Mr. Matsudaira holds MBA from MIT and MSc in Bio Medical Engineering from Waseda University.

Jim Mueller is Vice President Asia/Pacific for United, the world’s leading airline. In this role, Mueller serves as the company’s chief commercial representative in the Asia/Pacific region. He is responsible for the sales and marketing for the Pacific network and is based at the company's offices in Tokyo, Japan.

Mueller joined United in 2009 to lead the customer solutions team, responsible for managing post-travel customer issues.

Before joining United, Mueller spent 15 years at Northwest Airlines serving most recently as Vice President of Global Cargo Sales, where he was responsible for the division's global sales and marketing. He also served in a variety of other leadership positions at Northwest, with responsibilities in revenue management, pricing, alliances and sales. During his time at Northwest, Mueller was previously stationed in Asia, where he was responsible for commercial, administrative and operational activity in the Pacific region.

Mueller holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor of arts degree in economics from St. John's University. He is married with one daughter.

 

Johnny Lau

Johnny is the Global Head, Aviation Finance and Managing Director of ICBC Leasing since 2008. ICBC Leasing is a wholly owned subsidiary of Industrial & Commercial Bank of China which specializes in lease financing of aviation, shipping and big-ticket equipment. As of Dec 2010, ICBC Leasing has a fleet of 59 aircraft amongst other assets of total value exceeding RMB55 billion.

Johnny possesses over 21 years working experience in asset and aviation financing. He started his career at the Bank of East Asia in Hong Kong. He then joined Cathay Pacific Airways where he was the Senior Finance Manager before he left to pursue investment banking. He joined Babcock & Brown as a lease transactor. Based in Hong Kong, Johnny was responsible for originating transactions for clients in Asia Pacific. He continued closing domestic and cross-border lease transactions after joining Macquarie Bank in Hong Kong. Johnny was recruited by Citi’s Asset Finance Group in 2001 and focused mainly on arranging cross-border leases for Asian clients in different industries. He was also responsible for developing a lease product for mainland China. In 2003, Johnny joined Citi’s Global Aviation corporate banking business and had been involved in aircraft financing, corporate finance and advisory services, risk management and transaction banking products for airlines, airports, aircraft leasing companies and manufacturing customers. His last capacity was Regional Head of the Asia-Pacific region.

Johnny is a CPA of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a fellow of the UK Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He has a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Hong Kong.

Junichi Miyakawa

Junichi Miyakawa is currently Executive Vice President of Overseas Sales & Marketing, and Customer Support for the MRJ, the next generation regional jet.

Prior to this assignment, Miyakawa was Director of the Defense Aircraft Engineering Department at Nagoya Aerospace Systems of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. In this position he was responsible for engineering entire aircraft programs for the Japan Self Defense Air Force. Prior to this position, he served as project manager of future tactical aircraft. He also served as assistant chief designer of P-X/C-X (Maritime patrol and military transport) program, responsible for equipment layout and arrangement design.

Miyakawa also has held various positions in aerodynamics research and development, including wind tunnel testing, CFD software and aerodynamic design method development. In this position he was responsible for Boeing 7J7 high speed wing design collaborative project, the reentry space vehicle wing design project and the maglev train aerodynamic design project. He joined Mitsubishi in April 1978 as an engineer in aerodynamics research section.

Miyakawa graduated from Tokyo University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering, and received a Master of Science degree and an Engineer degree in aerospace engineering from Stanford University in 1982 and 1983 respectively.

Managing Director, Head of Aviation Finance Group Asia Pacific BNP Paribas

Nicolas Parrot joined BNP Paribas in 1997 in Tokyo to be part of the Aviation Finance team for Asia. He moved to Singapore in 2000 and was appointed Head of Aviation Finance Group Asia Pacific in 2002. In 2004, Nicolas relocated again to Tokyo to set up the Japanese Operating Lease desk for the Structured Leasing team of BNP Paribas. He spent three years there, closing several JOL transactions as equity arranger, in difficult market conditions.

Since August 2007, Nicolas is back in Singapore in his former position of Head of Aviation Finance Asia Pacific, running a team of ten individuals who serve the air transport industry in the region.

The Aviation Finance Asia Pacific team is responsible for the origination, structuring and execution of the aviation finance transactions for airlines and lessors of the region. The team is also in charge of the global relationship management for the airlines and operating lessors providing a single entry point in the bank to our clients.

In his thirteen years in the aviation finance and leasing industry, Nicolas has closed a vast number of transactions in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Turkey, Thailand, Australia and China for top tier and medium tier airlines covering most of the debt, tax lease and cross-border products that applies to the aviation finance market.

Nicolas holds an Engineering degree from Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris (ENSMP).

Olga joined Ascend in 2004 and is currently responsible for producing the aircraft values, appraisal of portfolios and bespoke market studies. Olga is one of the few Certified ISTAT (International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading) asset appraisers, and is a trusted analyst to many of Ascend's clients. Some of her current engagements involve supporting the leading airframe and engine manufacturers, operating lessors, and financial institutions. 

Prior to joining Ascend, Olga held a number of executive posts within the commercial aviation industry, including positions at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Avmark. Olga holds an MBA in Aviation (with Distinction) from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Olga speaks Russian, English and German.

Paul Finklestein was appointed Vice President, Marketing for Pratt & Whitney’s Commercial Engines division in 2009. He has Marketing responsibility for all Pratt & Whitney products world wide.

Paul joined Pratt & Whitney in 1979 and has held numerous positions in engineering, program management and customer service organizations. Prior to leading the marketing activity, Paul was the Program Manager for the PW4000 engine family, and then most recently the Regional Director of Customer Service in the Asia Pacific region.

Paul holds a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University, a masters degree in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master degree in Business Adminstration from the University of Connecticut.

Paul joined Ascend in January 2010 after 10 years within the aviation industry. Paul started his career at Aer Lingus in Revenue Management, Paul moved to RBS Aviation Capital in the Investor Markets team where he worked on debt syndication, structured finance and aircraft trading. After 3 years at RBS he moved on to ANZ and worked within Structured Debt looking at Asset Finance and Infrastructure Finance. Paul’s last post before joining Ascend was at ING focused on Aircraft Finance.

Since joining Ascend, Paul has primarily focused on Risk Advisory, product development and strategic studies.

Peter Morris

Peter is a veteran of over 25 years’ in the air transport industry. His expertise spans strategic and economic studies, industry forecasts and a range of traffic, capacity, revenue and cost analyses.

Before joining Ascend in 2003, Peter was Chief Economist and Director, Research Consultancy for the International Air Transport Association (IATA), where he developed IATA’s Aviation Information & Research (AIR) department into a leading global commercial supplier of air transport information and research.

Peter is a regular media commentator on the aviation industry and the impact of new market developments. He holds a BSc in Economics and a MSc in Energy Economics.

Philippe Poutissou

Philippe Poutissou was appointed to his current position as Vice President, Marketing, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft in September 2008.

Mr. Poutissou leads the Marketing & Communications teams in support of market forecasts, sales campaign support, airline analysis, branding and media relations activities around the world for Bombardier’s QSeries, CRJ Series and CSeries Aircraft.

Joining the Marketing Department in Toronto in 2000, Philippe promptly assumed management duties as Manager and then Director, responsible for leading Marketing and Airline Analysis activities in regions including Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

Mr. Poutissou has been involved in aviation since 1995 when he joined Bombardier as an aerodynamics engineer. In that role, Mr. Poutissou helped develop, test and certify the Q400 regional airliner, Bombardier’s leading turboprop aircraft launched into revenue service in 2000.

A Professional Engineer registered in Ontario, Mr. Poutissou holds a degree in Engineering Physics from Queen’s University and a Masters of Science in Aeronautics from the University of Washington.

Originally a native of Vancouver, Mr. Poutissou lives in Toronto with his wife and two young children.

Riyaz Peermohamed

Chief Financial Officer IndiGo Airlines

Mr. Peermohamed joined low fare start up IndiGo in Delhi in May 2006 as Chief Financial Officer. He is a key member of the core team which set up the airline and then established it as a major profitable low fare airline in India.

Prior to joining IndiGo, Mr. Peermohamed was with Emirates in Dubai where he worked in various positions since 1989 to 2006. His last position held with Emirates was Senior Vice President – Corporate Treasury when he was responsible for treasury, aircraft finance, bond issues, taxation and corporate finance and a key member of the aircraft and engines acquisition team.

Some notable financings he completed during his career spanning IndiGo and Emirates were: Financing sixty nine A320 aircraft for IndiGo airlines since it’s start-up; being a key member of the aircraft and engine acquisition team for IndiGo A320NEO aircraft and P&W engines; key member of aircraft and engine acquisition team for Emirates A330 and Rolls Royce engines, Boeing 777 and GE engines and Airbus A380 and EA engines; completed three ground breaking successful bond issues for Emirates to raise more than USD 1.5 billion, including one Islamic sukuk.

Prior to Emirates he worked with chartered accountancy firm KPMG in Dubai.

Mr. Peermohamed holds a Bachelor of Science from Bombay University, is a Chartered Accountant (India) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (USA).

Mr. Robert Martin has over 20 years experience in aircraft financing and leasing business. He joined the Company, then known as Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE), in 1998 and has led the organization through a successful expansion programme which has seen it emerge as a consistently profitable and leading player in the global aircraft leasing business.

Mr. Martin began his career in aircraft financing in London in 1987 with the Bank of America. He subsequently held senior positions in both London and Singapore with the Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan (LTCB), before moving to HSBC Investment Bank in Hong Kong, where he held the position of Aircraft Finance Director.

In addition to his role as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Martin holds a seat as an Executive Director on the board of BOC Aviation and chairs the Management Committee.

Mr. Martin holds an MA in Economics from Cambridge University and was educated at Rugby School.

 

Shigeki Tsubokawa

General Manager, Japan AirAsia X

Shigeki Tsubokawa was appointed as General Manager, Japan for AirAsia X in August 2010.  In this position, he is responsible for Japan commercial sales and marketing programs and revenue and service delivery of the carrier’s 2 bases in the country, Haneda and Kansai.  Less than a year of entering the Japanese market he has built the carrier to be the Japan’s most well known international low cost airline and is planning to add more frequencies to Tokyo and Kansai regions.

His specialty and passion has been to working side by side with Japanese regulators, government organizations and airport representatives to ensure ‘Low Cost Long Haul’ model can also work in Japan, which is still known to be one of the industry’s heaviest regulated countries.

A very passionate country manager aged 44 years, who has tremendous energy and a great amount of patience to deal with Japan’s regulatory bodies and authorities in the country’s civil aviation.  Tsubokawa knows that there is huge potential in Japan for air travel, and with the proven business model by AirAsia X, he is committed to growing the market even further and provide opportunities for affordable air travel without sacrificing the quality for Japanese travelers who have never been given that choice before.

Tsubokawa has more than 22 years of airline experiences in numerous management positions offered by Canadian Airlines, Northwest Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic and has lived in 3 countries.

 

Shinichi Nishikubo

Shinichi Nishikubo joined Skymark Airlines in 2003 as an advisor and is currently president of the company, having also held the position of chairman. Skymark Airlines Inc. is a low-cost airline headquartered at Tokyo International Airport, operating scheduled passenger services within Japan, and employs approximately 1,700 people. Skymark is the dominant carrier at Kobe Airport and is also the only domestic airline operating at Ibaraki Airport north of Tokyo.

Shinichi Nishikubo started his career at the Daido Corporation before moving on to become a director at a number of companies including C-NET, Masternet and Epsilon.

Tetsuya “Ted” Nozaki began his carrier in aircraft leasing and financing in 1989 at ITOCHU Corporation. In 1996, he relocated to Greenwich, Connecticut for the assignment at ITOCHU AirLease, Inc , a US subsidiary of ITOCHU as General Manager.

Ted joined Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) in 2002 to strengthen their aircraft leasing business. In 2004, MC Aircraft Management International Inc. (MCAM) was established in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Ted was assigned as General Manager to lead Mitsubishi Corporation’s aircraft leasing business.

In 2007, MCAM was relocated to Irvine, California to promote growth and strengthen MCAM’s global capabilities. Under Ted’s directions, MCAM quickly grew with the addition of several aviation professionals. MC spun off aircraft leasing business to MC Aviation Partners (MCAP) in 2008. MCAM became a subsidiary of MCAP to manage MCAP’s aircraft leasing portfolio. MCAM changed its name to MC Aviation Partners Americas in June 2010.

In April 2011 Ted was named as Chief Commercial Officer and Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing at MC Aviation Partners Americas.
Ted has been instrumental throughout the years in negotiating many aircraft lease and trading activities worldwide.

Ted is a graduate of University of Tokyo in 1989 with bachelor’s degree in engineering.
