Ascend Hosts Japan's First-Ever Aviation Finance Forum

Unique market’s chief players gather to debate the future of Japan’s $62.5 billion aviation market

TOKYO, LONDON, HONG KONG, NEW YORK – September 7: Ascend, the global aviation specialists, are set to host Japan’s inaugural aviation finance conference this month in Tokyo, on 28-29 September.

According to Ascend, Japan’s aviation market is worth an estimated US$62.5 billion, and uniquely offers a complete ecosystem of financiers, lessors, manufacturers and airlines.

“This new conference offers a rare opportunity to explore the relationship dependencies across all of Japan’s key aviation sectors and to gain insight on what the future holds for one of Asia’s most mature aviation markets,” says Ascend’s Head of Consultancy Eddy Pieniazek.

“So much is going on right now with the re-emergence of Japan Airlines, the rise of low cost carriers, and the highly-anticipated next generation of Mitsubishi Regional Jets. Bringing together as it does so many of Japan’s most important aviation players, Ascend’s Aviation Finance Forum aims to deliver a rare 360 degree perspective on a hugely important market.”

The conference agenda takes an integrated approach to Japan’s aviation finance, delving into, among other things, the health of aviation finance, and how deals will continue to be done. It also covers the relative importance of export credit, the outlook for equity and debt, and the increasingly important role of lessors in underpinning growth.

“Ascend has been consulting with many of the major players in Japan over many years, and we now have a dedicated team based in Tokyo. We are delighted to be able to host a conference as important as this in our new base,” Pieniazek says.

Confirmed speakers at the event include industry leaders such as: Johnny Lau, CFO, Spring Airlines; Shinichi Nishikubo, President and CEO, Skymark Airlines;
Junichi Miyakawa, Executive Vice President, Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation; Andrew Cowen, Managing Partner, Mango Aviation Partners; Azran Osman-Rani, CEO, AirAsia X; Vincent Hodder, Executive Manager Strategy, Jetstar Airways; Jim Mueller
VP Asia Pacific, United Airlines; Masao Masuda, Director Corporate Finance Development, Bank of Japan Head of Special Finance; Bank of Tokyo – Mitsubishi UFJ.

“Given the response we’ve had to date with over 100 senior aviation professionals attending, the forum looks set to become a fixture in the global aviation finance calendar,” says Pieniazek.
