Seventy years ago in the summer of 1940, thousands of gallant men fought and died in the skies above England. The battle was a true change in the fortunes of war. Without the 'few' – those Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots who fought so hard, Britain would probably have lost the war and the world may have succumbed to Nazi domination. In the Battle of Britain, both the German Luftwaffe and the RAF had excellent and poor aircraft types. Both sides had both excellent and poor strategies and tactics.
