Ascend Aircraft Ratings launch

Wednesday was a day for celebration in Ascend with the launch of the Aircraft Ratings product. Aircraft Ratings is a product that we hope will change the way you look at Ascend. It is an in depth and sophisticated way of looking at aircraft risk and is designed around the types of conversations and negotiations needed to ensure that capital keeps flowing into the aviation finance business. As a client-led product and one that has drawn from all parts of our business it has been a great experience for us to deliver the Ratings and to feel that we are getting closer to our customers through it.

Aviation finance is a sector that has lagged behind others in terms of the analytics available for risk management and deal analysis. Now that risk management is such a focus for financiers and lessors we are delighted to be able to offer something to fill the clear need in the market. Aircraft Ratings shows how aircraft gain and lose value due to expected depreciation and market movements. By separating out these two measures you can gain extra insight into the movement of aircraft values.

We think that the Ratings product is especially valuable because it makes it possible to analyse aircraft on both a strategic basis and a transactional basis. Strategically the ratings can be used to create an investment strategy or to decide on lending parameters. For individual deals they can be used to calculate a risk adjusted return because we associate the ratings with real numbers that can be applied to our Base Values.

The product is designed to bridge the gaps between aviation specialists and risk specialists by describing the value of aircraft. With the addition of graphs, statistics and commentary Aircraft Ratings can be used as a stand alone study into the market for a particular aircraft type. Customer response so far has been overwhelmingly positive with some customers saying that they have been waiting for 10 years for it to arrive.

Aircraft Ratings has been launched with a great amount of pride in Ascend. It contains a lot of our thinking and methodology about aircraft values and the state of the market and I am sure it will generate a lot of argument and discussion. We are all looking forward to getting out in front of you to start off this debate.
